Here’s Your First Look at Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda Together in ‘Mary Poppins Returns’
Of all the things we’re most excited for in the New Year that lies ahead of us, the debut of Disney’s Mary Poppins Returnsis right up there with the best of them. While we’ve still got a while to go — the film won’t be released until December (womp, womp) — the House of Mouse has just the thing to tide us over.
USA Today released the first snap of Emily Blunt (AKA Mary Poppins) and Lin-Manuel Miranda, who will play Jack the lamplighter, together, and it’s every bit as gratuitous as you might expect.
In the shot, we see the two A-listers having a blast as they ride down the street with Michael Banks’ (now fully grown) three little ones, John, Georgie, and Anabel, as a horrified Jane (Emily Mortimer) and Ellen (Julie Walters) look on.

It’s at once new and modern, yet also reminiscent of the magical carousel ride the original Mary Poppins once took with Bert, Jane, and Michael.
Between this, the film’s super cool moving poster, the Mary Poppins teaser shot Disney released back in March, and a cast which also includes Dick Van Dyke as a bank chairman, Colin Firth as the bank’s new boss, Angela Lansbury as a balloon lady, and Meryl Streep (!) as an eccentric cousin named Topsy, we’re more excited than EVER to see this remake.
Cheers to 2018!
