Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas Reflect on the Pre-Wedding Mehendi Ceremony: ‘We Made It Our Own’
Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas are officially married, and while there are still more celebrations to come, there have already been some very special moments during their extravagant wedding weekend in Rajasthan, India. The event was a family affair from the very beginning, fusing both of their backgrounds with plans for two ceremonies: a traditional Indian one on Sunday and a Christian service officiated by Jonas’ father on Saturday. One of their favorite moments, however, came before their walk down the aisle.
The newlyweds took to Instagram after their first wedding on Saturday to reflect on their shared joy and the joy of their loved ones. Both Chopra and Jonas shared a series of laugh-filled snaps showing the couple in traditional Indian garb at their Mehendi party.
“One of the most special things that our relationship has given us is a merging of families who love and respect each other’s faiths and cultures,” they wrote in their identical captions. “Planning our wedding with an amalgamation of both was so, so amazing. An important part for the girl in an Indian wedding is the Mehendi.”
Traditionally, the Mehendi party is a pre-wedding celebration held the day before the couple’s walk down the aisle, during which the bride has henna applied to her palms, the backs of her hands, and her feet.
“Once again we made it our own,” the couple shared, “and it was an afternoon that kicked off the celebrations in the way we both dreamed.”
