Nike Is Bringing Back a 30-Year-Old Shoe and We’re So into It

Nike is making old classics new again. They recently announced a collaboration with Converse to give the iconic high top Chuck Taylors the “flyknit treatment.” Now it’s continuing its trend of pulling from the past to create something new by revisiting a sneaker that first debuted 30 years ago.

When the Air Sock Racer ($130) was originally released in 1986, it had no laces, opting instead for a style that basically resembled buckle-up socks. Now the decades-old shoe is getting a revamp with Nike’s now signature flyknit fabric and a lighter sole, although it’s staying loyal to its predecessor with a flamboyant yellow upper.

We’ve seen a lot of trends with running shoes, but this may be the best one yet. No one really wants to go through the hassle of tying their shoes — or worse yet, dealing with untied laces when they’re running! Slip-ons don’t give enough support, and unfortunately we can’t all get Marty McFly’s automatic lace-up kicks, so of course buckles are the logical choice. Plus, they just look so, so cool. Even if you’re not wearing them for athletic purposes, these kicks will up your style game.

You’ll have to wait until April 27 to snag a pair, so make sure to bookmark the page so you can have your wallet ready before you hit the gym that day!
