S’mores Lovers Rejoice! Nutella Hot Chocolate + Marshmallow Sandwiches
When thinking of winter comfort food, a grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup immediately comes to mind. But clearly, we have a sweet tooth. So we decided to flip the world of grilled cheese and soup upside down… to make a sweet grilled “cheese” and soup. As a result? Nutella hot chocolate and a melted marshmallow sandwich. There’s no booze in the hot chocolate to keep the recipe kid friendly, but if you’re kid free, go ahead and add a tablespoon of Kahlua to spice it up a bit. This is a great, fun little dessert that is guaranteed to surprise guests. What’s even better? It’s super easy and only needs 5 ingredients!
Ingredients:
– 3 tablespoons Nutella
– 2 cups milk
– 4 slices of white bread
– 1 cup marshmallows
– 4 tb softened butter
First, we’ll prepare the Nutella hot chocolate.
Pour 1 cup of milk and 3 tb Nutella into a saucepan. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat. Whisk until Nutella is melted. Add in the rest of the milk (1 cup), and gently heat till warm. Turn down the heat to a gentle simmer or warm. Next, the grilled cheese!
Using the softened butter (1 tb per slice of bread), butter both sides of two pieces of bread. For the other two pieces, butter only one side. Place marshmallows (1/2 cup per slice) on the two pieces bread that were buttered on both sides. Use the single sided buttered bread to top off the sandwiches. Grill at low heat for 5-7 minutes, or until a beautiful brown crust appears. Flip to brown the other side (about 2 minutes). Then, you’re done!
Oh yeah… that is some melty cheese-like marshmallow.
Cut each sandwich into fours.
Pour Nutella hot chocolate into little glasses and top off with grilled “cheese”. Yum! When eating, make sure to dip the sandwiches into the hot chocolate.
