Classic Cookie Mashup: Make This Oreo Chip Cookies Recipe
Everyone loves classic cookies… Chocolate Chip, Oreos, Nutter Butter, the list goes on. Here at Brit + Co, we finally decided to jam our two favorite cookies together, chocolate chip and Oreos!
We’ve seen all the Oreo Stuffed chocolate chip cookies and decided to put a Brit spin on it. Not only did we stuff the typical chocolate chip cookie with an Oreo, we also chopped up the Oreo and added it into the chocolate chip cookie batter, getting Oreo in every, delicious bite. Presenting the Oreo Crumble Cookie and the Triple Decker Oreo Chipwich. Now the only problem is making sure no one steals a cookie from the cookie jar ;)
Ingredients:
– 2 sticks softened butter
– 2 large eggs
– 1 cup light brown sugar, does not need to be packed
– 3/4 cup granulated sugar
– 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
– 3 1/2 cups all purpose flour
– 1 tsp kosher salt
– 1 tsp baking soda
– 8 oz chocolate chips
– 1 package of Oreo cookies
As with all baking projects, the first thing to do is preheat that oven! For the Oreo Crumble Cookies, you’ll want the oven at 325 degrees F. For the Triple Decker Oreo Chipwich, you’ll need to turn up the heat to 350 degrees F.
Our chocolate chip cookie recipe creates a slightly more cakey cookie, making it easy to add things like other cookies! Depending on how much of each cookie you want, you can vary the amounts of dough used for each cookie.
First, cut up the softened butter into one inch or so squares in a large mixing bowl – this helps later when creaming the butter and sugar together. Add both sugars in and mix until it looks combined.
Add in eggs and vanilla extract and cream until combined.
In a medium mixing bowl, combine flour, baking soda, and salt. If you have time, sift the flour before combining it with the baking soda and salt. Shortcut chef pro tip: Use a whisk to sift if you don’t have an official sifter. Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture in batches while mixing in between. When completely mixed, add in chocolate chips. Mix until just combined.
Now, it’s time to trick it out!
First, the Oreo Crumble Cookie.
For this one, scoop out a quarter of the dough and crush two Oreos. Mix the Oreo bits into your dough.
Use an ice cream scoop to scoop out the dough.
Place scoops on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the tops are a light brown.
Next, we’ve got the Triple Decker Oreo Chipwich.
Take a scoop of dough and put it on top of an Oreo. Take another same sized scoop and put it underneath the cookie. Flatten out the top and bottom and use the extra dough to cover the rest of the Oreo.
Use your hands to roll the dough together around each Oreo.
Remember to turn that oven up to 350 degrees F, and bake for about 18 minutes.
As you can see these cookies are HUGE! To make sure the cookies still look like cookies, use a spatula to flip the cookies after they’ve baked for 15 minutes. This helps flatten the cookies out. Without doing this extra step, the cookies take on a dome shape because the edges sink, while the middle is held up by the Oreo inside.
