Step Aside, Millennial Pink: *This* Is the 2018 Pantone Color of the Year
Every year, the color experts at Pantone determine a hue for the next 365-day span. While 2017 has had a lot of millennial pink (one of 2016’s colors was rose quartz), the actual color of the year was Greenery, a pretty yellow-green shade reminiscent of springtime. But Pantone’s choice for 2018 is one that’s a little *less* frequently found in nature, and it’s making the future look just a little brighter.

Meet purple’s older, bolder sister: Ultra Violet. The vibrant hue comes as Pantone’s way of giving people what they need in the new year. Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute, said, “The Pantone Color of the Year has come to mean so much more than ‘what’s trending’ in the world of design; it’s truly a reflection of what’s needed in our world today.”
Pantone said Ultra Violet is “a dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade [that] communicates originality, ingenuity and visionary thinking that points us to the future.”
Purple has long been associated with both spirituality and creativity, two things that definitely won’t hurt as we move forward. 2017 has certainly seen some progress, but hopefully the new year will bring even more — and maybe Ultra Violet can help inspire that change.
