People Are Loving Nicole Kidman and Alexander Skarsgard’s Emmys 2017 Kiss
Nicole Kidman and husband Keith Urban might be one of the most memorable couples to ever walk the red carpet, but at the 2017 Emmy Awards, it was Kidman’s kiss with another man that had people freaking out.
When Kidman’s Big Little Lies costar Alexander Skarsgard won Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie, he greeted some of his castmates with kisses on the cheek on his way up to the stage. But when he got to Kidman, the on-screen husband and wife shared a fleeting (friendly) peck on the lips.
Kidman was seated right next to Urban, and many viewers couldn’t help but laugh at the situation.

Of course, the moment was nothing, but it was also kind of everything. (Lest anyone get the wrong idea, though, Kidman shared a much more romantic and passionate kiss with Urban backstage.)
Kidman later won the Outstanding Actress in a Limited Series or TV Movie category for her work on Big Little Lies, in which she played a woman who is abused behind closed doors by Skarsgard’s character. She used her acceptance speech to shine a powerful light on domestic abuse.
“It is a complicated, insidious disease,” she said. “It exists far more than we allow ourselves to know. It is filled with shame and secrecy. And by you acknowledging me with this award, it shines a light on it even more. So thank you, thank you, thank you.”
Skarsgard brought his mom as his Emmys date, and thanked her in his speech. He also thanked his Big Little Lies family for “making this boy feel like one of the girls.” Awww.
