People Think Calvin Harris’s New Song Is Totally About Taylor Swift…Again
Taylor Swift and Calvin Harris have had a rather tumultuous relationship since their breakup back in June.
Complete with Twitter rants, VMA snubs and bold Instagram messages, things got ugly, and fast. Though their relationship seemed to be taking a turn in a positive direction when Calvin liked Taylor’s recent Instagram reminder about who-co-wrote his hit “This Is What You Came For,” this rollercoaster may soon be heading downhill again, thanks to another of Calvin’s songs.
With the release of his new single, “My Way,” the musician is sparking some serious buzz that the hit is referencing none other than his famous ex, Tay, and let’s just say this is NOT a love song with lyrics such as, “Lie awake, two faced. But in my heart I understand, I made my move and it was all about you …You were the one thing in my way.”
Though his last release, “Ole,” was also rumored to be about Taylor, this one has Calvin himself weighing in on the matter… sort of.
In an interview with Elvis Duran on Z100, Calvin said of the song, “I thought of the concept years ago when I left Safeway. I was trying to move to London and was working in the store in Scotland. I was trying to go down and make music for a living, but I couldn’t because I didn’t have any money. You get brainwashed into thinking it’s as good as it’s going to get, and then you have to realize actually there’s a whole world out there. When you’re stuck in that situation you can’t see that, you don’t think you’re going to become anything.”
Aha! So since this was all pre-Tay, it couldn’t possibly be about her, right?
Then he continued.
“That was just a concept in the back of my mind but I had no idea how to put it into words until very recently.” Gulp.
Calvin gave even more insight into the meaning behind the song in a follow-up interview for On-Air With Ryan Seacrest. “I thought of the words really quickly,” he said. “It could be about anything. It could be about a job that you hate, and then you quit the job then life is awesome. If could be about a relationship, and then you quit the guy or girl, then life is awesome… you were in my way,” he says.
Ouch! Call us crazy, but that kindddd of sort of seems a little pointed toward a certain someone.
Ever the professional, Ryan tries to dig for more: “Has that ever happened to you?” he says. But Calvin plays coy yet again. “I think it’s like an amalgamation of events in my life since maybe the last 10 years,” he replied, neatly dodging the pointed question.
Intttterrresttting, no?
