Peter Som + The Inside = Fab Furniture With a Fashionable Twist
What happens when an in-demand fashion designer teams up with a custom furniture maker? In the case of Peter Som and The Inside, they produce a line of fab furniture that pops with personality and pattern. Together, they’re blurring the line between home fashion and personal style, and the results are amazing. The only downside: You may find yourself wishing you could wear your furniture.
“I was thrilled to have the chance to partner with The Inside,” Som tells Brit + Co. “It’s a full-circle moment, actually, since Christiane [Lemieux, founder and CEO of The Inside] and I went to Parsons together, and I’ve long been a fan of everything she’s achieved in the home world. So there was not a moment of hesitation to team up. I love the model of made-in-the-USA, fun, approachable, and chic furniture. She’s doing things in a new way. I love it!”
Danielle Wallish, senior design director for The Inside, says they were equally excited about working with Som. “Peter has a unique point of view that’s informed by both his West Coast roots and NYC life,” she says. “He’s not afraid to take something classic and mix it up to create something utterly fresh. His designs are irreverent, modern, and sophisticated, which speak directly to our ethos and the interiors we are excited by.”
The line, which launched in January, is full of couches, chairs, ottomans, and other pieces peppered with pattern and color. Prices range from $149 for a pillow up to $1,139 for a loveseat. More patterns will be released in the coming months.
Som says the blend between personal and home fashion is a logical extension. “Clothing and furniture are incredibly linked and both worlds constantly inspire each other. What you wear and what surrounds you are all about making yourself feel good,” he says. “It’s about color, pattern, proportion, and comfort. How you live your life encompasses so many things. As a fashion designer I am obviously super in tune with anything visual, and there’s nothing more inspiring than seeing a beautiful, thoughtful room. At the end of the day, it’s all about delivering joy.”
