NYC Planned Parenthood Will Soon Offer Hormone Therapy for Transgender Patients
Many folks are concerned about what Trump’s election will mean for women’s issues, health coverage and LGBTQ rights. That’s one of the reasons Planned Parenthood is receiving thousands of dollars in donations in VP-elect Mike Pence’s name. It’s also why it’s amazing news that PP NYC (who have provided affordable health care for millions of people for over 100 years) will soon begin offering transgender hormone therapy on a sliding-scale basis.
“Everyone deserves access to high-quality health care. Providing hormone therapy will help us better meet the needs of the transgender patients we’re already serving, as well as provide a much-needed service for other transgender individuals throughout New York City and beyond,” said Joan Malin, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of New York City.
Gender-affirming hormone therapy (which is covered by Medicaid and most insurance programs, as well as other payment options that PP counsellors can help you explore) is available for individuals whose gender identity does not match their sex assigned at birth.

Unfortunately, many “transgender and gender nonconforming individuals often face barriers to accessing the services they need, including discrimination from providers and lack of education about their health needs,” Malin added, saying, “Offering hormone therapy in an inclusive, welcoming environment is an important part of meeting the needs of trans and gender nonconforming communities in New York.”
Beginning December 1, PP NYC will offer transgender hormone therapy at its Boro Hall health center in Brooklyn, although appointments can be scheduled now at 212-965-7000.
