You NEED to Watch This Beauty Vlogger’s Before and After Makeup Video
How much makeup you should wear on a daily basis has become something of a confusing topic in 2015. On one hand, we’re collectively obsessed with beauty vloggers and stocking up on new goodies at Sephora. On the other hand, we’re constantly being told that we don’t need makeup and should embrace our natural beauty – a confusing set of ideals Amy Schumer really drove home in her recent viral video.
Before she begins applying products, Nikkie prefaces with some impactful thoughts about the current state of beauty. She starts by saying: “I’ve been noticing a lot lately that girls have been almost ashamed to say they love makeup. Because nowadays when you say you love makeup, you either do it because you want to look good for boys, you do it because you’re insecure or you do it because you don’t love yourself. I feel like in a way lately it’s almost a crime to love doing your makeup.”
She explains that after watching a recent episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race, in which contestants dressed in half drag, half not, Nikkie felt inspired to show just how dramatically makeup can alter your appearance and that when it comes down to it, makeup should really just be fun. She begins like she would any other tutorial, explaining how to get her ultra glam look step by step – except only applying the makeup to half her face.
After she’s finished, Nikkie models the dramatic results. She then explains, “By no means I want to say that if you have insecurities that you should just slab makeup on feel better and just never be content with your own self. I just want people to know that makeup is fun and that there are no rules to makeup and if you want to go for that super sharp contour for the day, do it. If you want go for that red lip and crazy bold eyes, do it. There are no rules to makeup. Makeup is there for days when you want to look hella good!”
You can’t see us, but just know we’re over here starting a slow clap for this pretty lady.
