Prince Harry Has Asked Prince William to Be His Best Man at the Royal Wedding
The latest detail to be revealed about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s May 19 royal wedding is a heartwarming one: Harry has officially asked his big brother (and new dad — again!), Prince William, to be his best man.
Kensington Palace announced the news on Thursday, and said that William was happy to stand with his brother. “The Duke of Cambridge is honoured to have been asked, and is very much looking forward to supporting his brother at St George’s Chapel, Windsor on May 19th,” a statement read.
Though royal weddings traditionally favor “supporters” over a best man, Harry’s decision isn’t surprising, since he served as William’s best man at his 2011 wedding to Duchess Kate Middleton. When sharing the news on Twitter, Kensington Palace used several photos of the brothers together over the years — as children, at William’s wedding, and even dueling with light sabers (because of course).
So far, Prince Harry and Markle haven’t revealed who else will be in their wedding party, although the Suits star’s good friend Priyanka Chopra recently revealed that she will indeed be attending the wedding. “I’ve known Meghan for three years and I’m so happy the way the world has responded to her, because as long as I’ve known her … she is a relatable young woman of the world today,” she told Us Weekly. “She’s that girl who thinks out of the box. She has always been an activist. She has always had a strong voice. She’s an ambitious girl of today. I think the world needs strong role models like Meghan. I think, I hope, Meghan will end up being one of those people.”
The bride and groom-to-be have been releasing details about their big day to the public over the last several weeks, most recently announcing that 19-year-old cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason and Karen Gibson and The Kingdom Choir would be among the talent providing their wedding music.
