Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas Reveal the Wedding Moments That Moved Them to Tears
Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas tied the knot in not one, but two wedding ceremonies on the first weekend of December, and now the couple are opening up about the moments that moved them the most during their celebrations.
“It was all tears. All tears,” Chopra told People of the couple’s first wedding, a Christian ceremony held at the Umaid Bhawan Palace in Rajasthan in India on Saturday, December 1. “I could not hold it in. I think I was nervous and scared. But as soon as the curtains opened, and I saw his face it was just like everything settled and I knew I was making the best decision of my life.”
The couple held two ceremonies, the first one representative of Jonas’ Christian background and officiated by his father, and the second in honor of Chopra’s Hindu background, held in the same location on the following day.
“You know, you think your whole life about that moment,” Jonas said of the couple’s first ceremony, agreeing with his new wife that emotions were running high. “Honestly, I could not have imagined it would be as perfect as it was. It was highly emotional.”
The couple welcomed 225 guests to India for the weekend. The multi-day affair included a celebratory pre-wedding Mehendi party; a Sangeet, which turned into a dance competition between the families; and concluded with a Bidaai, a ritual in which Chopra’s family blesses her new life with her groom.
“We took beautiful traditions that we both grew up with and personalized them in a way that made sense for us,” Chopra said of the couple’s emotional weekend. “It’s been incredible to find the commonalities between our beliefs and figuring out how to blend them in a respectful and meaningful way.”
