This Crowdsourcing Project Wants You to Redesign the Artwork for Your Fave Book
They say not to judge a book by its cover, but it’s kind of hard not to. Beautiful cover art can help pique our interest in a book, leading us to check out the back cover synopsis and potentially read it. Unfortunately, many of the greatest classic novels that are now public domain don’t have the best artwork on their covers. Recovering the Classics is a new crowdsourcing project at the Creative Action Network, a global community of artists and designers that participate and often provide their artistry to crowdsourced campaigns around causes.
While the campaign is targeted at illustrators, typographers and artists, anyone is invited to contribute. There is a list of 100 books that you can submit artwork for. This project, part of an initiative by the White House, hopes to bring these covers to schools and libraries across the country. Your artwork could be featured on covers and eBooks if selected.
All artwork submitted will be available as apparel, totes, mugs or prints for purchase, and a portion of the proceeds will go directly to the artists. Supporting artists and encouraging reading? We LOVE everything about this campaign.
Interested in submitting your very own cover? Check out the guidelines and book list at the Creative Action Network.
