It’s happening! Days after reports started circulating that Reese Witherspoon was in talks with MGM to make Legally Blonde 3 a reality, the actress confirmed the news with the most perfect video.
“It’s true… #LegallyBlonde3,” she wrote on Instagram. The caption accompanied a short video clip of Witherspoon in a sequined pink bikini, floating leisurely past the camera on a blue lounger in a sparkling pool.
Fans of the film franchise will recognize the video instantly — it’s a re-creation of a scene in the iconic Harvard Law admission video that Witherspoon’s Elle Woods made in the original movie.
The Big Little Lies star didn’t reveal any further details just yet, but Deadline previously reported that most of the original team, including writers Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith and Karen McCullah, who adapted the Amanda Brown novel for the first film, are close to finalizing deals to work on the third installment. The focus will reportedly be even more firmly on female empowerment, a timely and fitting message for the franchise.
Legally Blonde was released in 2001 and became an immediate cult hit. (What, like it’s hard?) The sequel Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde followed in 2003. No planned release date for the third movie has been revealed.
