Reese Witherspoon Is the Next Star to Go the Goop Route
Reese Witherspoon has always been our girl — she blessed us with the bend + snap, after all. But we want more from our A-listers these days than just to watch them on the big and small screens. Sure, we can get a peek at what they’re up to via Instagram but a lot of celebrities are expanding their personal brands way beyond social media to show us not just how they live their life but how we can too. And Reese is the latest famous lady to launch a lifestyle site a la Gwyneth, Blake + Lauren Conrad.
In May, the Wild actress (whose four-year wedding anniversary is today, BTW — congrats!) will be joining the ever-expanding roster of famous ladies building an empire outside their main professional focus with new website Draper James.
Currently just a registration landing page, the site (which takes its name by combining her grandparents’ monikers) will be an ode to Reese’s Southern roots and soon filled with everything from bed + bath products, lingerie, handbags and kitchenware to fragrances + cosmetics, furniture, swimwear, pens + pencils, stationery, baby items and more. Reese told Cricket’s Circle the site will “sell products made in the South by local artisans who are sharing their own traditions. Think looming blankets, casting silver, and denim.” Ummm, we’ll take it all, thanks. The site’s focus on e-commerce will have a personal edge with goods influenced by the Southern traditions she grew up with. She shared: “My grandmother instilled in me a love for dressing up and hosting family. She surrounded herself with colorful flowers and beautiful things, and I wanted to bring all these ideas to a retail experience. It’s my way of giving back to the place I love the most.”
Although her angle sounds unique, Reese is entering a competitive field — besides recent lifestyle launcher Julianne Hough, plus your mainstay celebrity curators like Gwyneth Paltrow, Lauren Conrad and most recently Blake Lively, we’ve also seen personal sites that go beyond the blog pop up from Jamie Chung, Suits starMeghan Markle and Shay Mitchell. Draper James isn’t just a look behind-the-scenes of Reese’s busy life, nor is it just a platform to sell expensive stuff, but to stand out from the rest she’ll have to find a way to bring a bit of both to our browsers.
