As serious and dramatic as Big Little Lies is to watch, it's clear that the actors have a blast behind the scenes. And recently, Reese Witherspoon shared a story that proves just how close the Monterey Five actually are. Sitting down withExpats' Nicole Kidman for Vanity Fair, the Legally Blondeactress revealed the one reason she refuses to call Laura Dern by her first name, and only addresses her as "Dern."
"I hate how you call her Dern!" Nicole Kidman says. "Because it sounds weird."
"[It's] cause my name is Laura," Reese Witherspoon responds. "And it's confusing to me, my real name's Laura Jeanne...so I just call her Dern."
I love how the Big Little Lies cast can tease, interrupt, and talk over each other — that's exactly what it feels like to be in a family, and that relationship totally comes across onscreen.
Laura Dern herself has talked about the relationship between the BLL cast, and told the Today Show, "Let's just say we're best friends in art and in life and there would be nothing more fun for all of us [than to come back for season 3]. You know, we would have the time of our lives."

I had no clue Reese's name wasn't actually Reese, but the Hello Sunshine founder also revealed another shocker: she didn't think BLL was going to amount to anything.
"My favorite thing I called her like a weekend of shooting, and we were shooting Big Little Lies, and I called her and I was like, 'Dern. I was so funny today...And then I went into work today and Nicole is in the most serious drama I've ever seen,' and I was like, 'This show is not gonna work.'"
For once, I'm so glad she was proven wrong! And TBH, knowing the cast has so much lighthearted fun behind the camera makes it a little easier to watch the series.
