Go to a Galaxy Far, Far Away With This Star Wars Finn + Rey Couples Costume
When it comes to power couples, Rey and Finn from Star Wars: The Force Awakens come to mind. Their sword wielding prowess combined with their telepathic ability to know when the other is in trouble makes them an admirable pair, to say the least. Do you feel you have this type of connection with someone in your life? Are you looking for the perfect couples costume? We thought so. Below we’ve got tips and tricks to make these DIY costumes from our in-house stylist Misty Spinney. Both are super easy and require very few materials to make. And hey — part of being a badass Star War-rior is DIYing your way out of anything, so best to get started on your costume-making skills!
Before you get started MacGyver-ing your ‘stume, take a moment and get into character. If you’re Finn, remember you were trained as a Stormtrooper but you were able to tap into your conscience and see that your leaders were the bad guys. As for Rey, you are a survivalist who has been making ends meat by salvaging spaceship parts out in the desert. ‘Nuf said.
Costume time! Finn’s garb is all about the jacket. We found a black leather jacket at a thrift store for $15 and spray painted it tan. Then we added the red sections with acrylic paint. For Rey’s frock, we cut a long sleeve shirt into a tube top with matching arm bands. Then we fashioned cream colored fabric over the base and added some tan shorts to keep it classy. Her satchel is a simple faux leather pouch stitched to a faux leather strip attached around the waist. Pair the outfit with black booties and an updo. For the staff, adhere cardboard and a fabric strap to a closet dowel and spray paint it black. Again, you can find the full Rey costume tutorial by clicking on the link!
Now practice your moves knowing full well you’ll be the coolest couple at the party if you have some kind of synchronized routine to perform.
And don’t forget to ham it up all night pretending to fight off Stormtroopers and Adam from Girls (errr… I mean Kylo Ren).
