Rihanna’s Grammys Gown Was Made Up of More Than 275,000 Crystals
Rihanna didn’t need the red carpet to steal the fashion spotlight at the 2018 Grammys! The “Selfish” singer showed off no less than (count ’em!) three stunning ensembles throughout the course of the night, including a latex maroon trench from Alexandre Vauthier’s spring 2018 couture collection with Le Vian jewels and a gold Yves Saint Laurent midriff top with a coordinating skirt. It was the Fenty Beauty creator’s fuchsia, flamenco-inspired frock, however, which she wore for her performance of “Wild Thoughts” with DJ Khaled and Bryson Tiller, that had our jaws on the floor.
As the 29-year-old singer’s longtime stylist, Mel Ottenberg, revealed via Instagram, the custom Adam Selman number was made up of nearly 300,000 crystals — 275,000, to be exact!
The strappy gown featured a low neckline and an asymmetrical hem with fringe detailing. The Grammy-winning artist finished the look off with some sparkly orange tights, gold pumps, and an oversized floral hairpiece by florist Josh Werber, all the better to speak to the latin tone of the group’s song.
Rihanna, is, of course, no stranger to being covered in crystals — As you may recall, it was also Selman who created her nearly naked crystal look back in for the 2014 CDFA Awards.
Clearly, girl takes “shining bright like a diamond” to heart, and we absolutely love her for it.
