RIP Blackberry (Kind Of)
You can’t repeat the past and Blackberry is going to stop trying. Despite several previous attempts to come back and recreate its ’00s uber-popularity, the company announced today that it is going to stop making phones. But it’s not going away completely.
Blackberry will now rely on its partners to create the actual phones. They themselves are going to start focusing more on the software within the phones. They’ve already started selling certain pieces of Blackberry software to some Android phones. So, it’s not entirely impossible that Android phones could soon have BBM capabilities. (Fingers crossed there’s at least some good news for our nostalgia!)
But the company has also said it could completely leave the phone game if they’re unable to make it profitable. Get out your Juicy Couture sweatsuits, BBM us with your sad emoticons and help us move past the fact that you never know what you’ve got ’til it’s gone. We’ll remember you forever, Blackberry.
