This App Will Help You Find a New Roommate, No Sweat
You didn’t get much of a say in your college dorm roommate, but when you’re a grown-ass adult you shouldn’t have to deal with personality and lifestyle mismatches. And yet, we’ve all found ourselves trawling Craigslist searching for a listing that isn’t completely shady. Well, much like the dating pool has moved to the app world, so has the roommate finder. Check out the latest and greatest: Roomi.
Roomi is a free app for iOS that makes the search for your next roommate a cinch. The team vets each listing to make sure there’s a real person behind it, not some real estate agent, landlord or scammer. After you create your own profile, you can search from thousands of listings. When you find an apartment you like, you can scope out the potential roomie’s profile to make sure they are a good fit.
Security is a major concern with apps like this, so if you’re the one listing the room for rent, you can rest assured that none of your private information is visible to the public. That means no giving out your home address or phone number to Internet randos. Roomi puts the two of you in touch when you’re ready to take the next step, so you can have a secure conversation via the app itself and perhaps set up a viewing.
Roomi just launched this month in New York City, but the app makers are taking suggestions, so be sure to request your city!
