The Best Braid for Your Laziest Winter Days
Feeling lazy? We feel you 100 percent. When you’re in total chill mode, the last thing you want to do is spend time styling your hair. That said, there are times even on the most laid-back of Sundays when your cozy-girl look isn’t complete without you doing something more to your hair than a spriz of dry shampoo and a shake. That’s where this rope braid comes into play. It’s a fun and easy way to combine two braids into one that’ll leave your ‘do looking fresh in no time — even on those I-wanna-stay-in-bed winter days.
STEP 1: ROUGH UP YOUR ‘DO
First, prep your hair so it has hold and texture for those braids! Spritz on a light texturizing spray so your hair has added lift and gripping power (a bonus of texturizing spray is that it’ll soak up oils and grease from day-old hair).
STEP 2: BEGIN YOUR ROPE
Begin roping your hair on one side by working with two strands. Create an easy rope braid (like you would a French braid) by roping your first strand (the one that’s closest to your ear) with your second strand (the one that’s closest to the scalp). Keep a slight tension on the strands as you move down your head so you don’t unravel the rope braid. Secure the ends with an elastic band.
HELLO FROM THE OTHER SIDE
On the other side, you can either repeat another rope braid or really take it to the next level with a fishtail to keep this style extra interesting.
Widen your braid by tugging at the ends to create further fullness and liven up dirtier hair — this technique is known as pancaking.
STEP 3: BRING THOSE BRAIDS TOGETHER
Pull the second braid through the first rope braid to add dimension to this look and hold your style in place. We love the relaxed braid-on-braid vibe here — and the best part is, it doesn’t have to look perfect.
Step 4: TIE ‘EM TOGETHER + PIN DOWN STRAYS
Tie the ends of each braid together with *one* elastic band to unify your look. Then, pin any loose ends or strays in place with bobby pins. You can choose to hide your pins or leave them randomly exposed so they peek through for that ultra-relaxed, cool-girl vibe.
