Today in Love Winning: RuPaul Married His Longtime Partner
After two decades together, RuPaul and his Australian boyfriend, Georges LeBar, have tied the knot! This past January, 23 years after the day they met — on the dance floor of the nightclub Limelight, no less — the two quietly traded vows. We wouldn’t have even known about the wedding if Ru hadn’t dropped the news on Wednesday during an interview withHollywood Today Live.
“I’ve never said this on television before,” the 56-year-old said when asked about his relationship. “We are married!”
It was a long time in coming, but it wasn’t necessarily a life’s dream. “We never wanted to do it,” Ru added. “We were looking into it for really for tax breaks and financial (reasons).”
Still, it was no doubt a romantic occasion. “He’s so kind and funny,” Ru gushed to Buzzfeed in 2015. “I remember praying, ‘I want a sweet, sensitive man,’ and I got an Australian who’s just lovely.”
When he’s not hosting his long-running series, RuPaul’s Drag Race, Ru lives with Georges on his 60,000 acre Wyoming ranch. While he says he finds the ranch “very boring,” he admits that his spouse feels the same way about show business. “He doesn’t care about show business at all. He could care less,” says Ru.
Despite settling down, Ru’s still geared up for the spotlight. The ninth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race returns on March 24. That leaves just enough time for a belated honeymoon.
