See the Inspiring Trailer for the Ruth Bader Ginsburg Documentary
US Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is both a political force and a pop culture icon. And now she’s the focus of a new documentary, which will shed light on the woman so many admire.
“I ask no favor for my sex,” the 84-year-old says at the beginning of the trailer. “All I ask of our brethren is that they take their feet off our necks.”
Directed by Betsy West and Julie Cohen, the documentary takes us back to when Ginsburg was first starting her career, a time when, as she says, “women were not wanted by the legal profession” and state and federal laws discriminated on the basis of gender. But that didn’t stop her. This documentary shows her fight to achieve equal protection for women at a time when the judges she was dealing with didn’t even believe that sexual discrimination existed.
The documentary also follows Ginsburg though her present-day nonstop lifestyle as she works out, addresses massive crowds, and signs autographs. It features interviews with the history-maker herself, as well as other prominent figures — such as Gloria Steinem — who can speak to how this formidable woman has impacted laws and changed our society for the better. “When you come right down to it, [she’s] the closest thing to a superhero I know,” Steinem says.
If you weren’t impressed with the iconic Supreme Court Justice before, this documentary is about to introduce you to your new hero.
RBG hits theaters on May 4.
