Scrunchies may be making a comeback on the runways of New York Fashion Week. but if you ask Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the ’80s hair accessory never really left. In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, the 85-year-old confirmed she has indeed “been wearing scrunchies for years.” Whether she’s swathed in her robes or in street clothes, the plushy accessory is a part of her lewk. The legal legend has a multitude of scrunchie colors to match a range of styles and occasions, from glitzy metallic stripes to understated solid black — see the the patterned version she sported for Neil Gorsuch’s swearing-in ceremony last year.
“My scrunchie collection is not as large as my collar and glove collections, but scrunchies are catching up,” she told the outlet.
Unlike the rest of us, who score our hairpieces at Target, RGB amassed her impressive accessory collection from her world travels. “My best scrunchies come from Zurich,” she shared, adding, “Next best, London, and third best, Rome.”
