This Save the Date Video Is the Best Thing You’ll Watch All Week
Aside from an engagement announcement (or Instagram snap), save the dates are your first official wedding milestone. In many ways it can really set the tone for the rest of your wedding festivities. Planning a formal affair? A traditionally printed card is probably in order. Want a casual ceremony? Maybe send out a fancy email. But if you’re looking for something playful, we suggest you take notes from this California couple who created an EPIC video where they literally go on a mission to “save the date.” It’s going to be hard to beat this one, guys.
The video starts out full Charlie’s Angels style with the two sneaking up out of the water to retrieve their precious “date.” When they come upon trouble Kelly, the bride-to-be, rips off her veil, throws it at a villain and it magically becomes a fishnet. Then, they scale some pretty gorgeous Northern California mountain sides and come upon a few more bad guys to which they use Kelly’s garters as blinding weapons. They continue to kick some serious butt until they finally find the date only to end up cornered by enemies. The solution? Distracting them with a wedding cake that’s secretly a bomb, of course. Naturally, the video ends with an explosion and a boat ride under the Golden Gate Bridge.
With a video as well produced as this one, you’d assume these two are in the film industry, but that’s actually not the case. Tyler (the groom) owns a restaurant in San Francisco and Kelly is finishing up her PhD in cognitive neuroscience at Stanford University. The adventurous element shouldn’t come as a huge surprise though considering Tyler was a winner of season 9 of The Amazing Race. NBD.
They told BuzzFeed the video cost about $400 to shoot, but most of that “went to sandwiches, snacks and champagne for the cast.” Kelly’s brother (who plays the bad guy she punches) is conveniently a fight choreographer and former WWE wrestler, so you can bet he was a big help in making all the action look top notch.
If this is only their save the date, we can’t wait to see what the wedding invitation is going to look like. Adventure video part two? We think that’s kind of a must.
