Jennifer Lopez’s New Comedy ‘Second Act’ Looks Like an Instant Classic
Jennifer Lopez is back on the big screen, and the first trailer for her upcoming movie Second Act looks like classic J.Lo perfection.
Lopez stars as Maya, a 40-year-old woman working a big-box retail store job but wishing she “lived in a world where street smarts equal book smarts” so she could have the financial and employment security she seeks.
While talking about a dream job she wishes she could get, the son of her best friend and co-worker Joan (Leah Remini) overhears her, and takes it upon himself to create a fake online life for her, complete with a very embellished LinkedIn résumé and some Photoshopped pics that make it look like Maya is friends with Barack Obama. The trick lands her the job interview — and to Maya’s surprise, the job.
Along with the cushy new gig, she gets a corner office with a view, a swanky new apartment, and her own corporate spending account. Tensions start to arise, though, as Joan warns Maya not to let her “fake” new life overshadow her roots. Milo Ventimiglia also stars as Lopez’s longtime boyfriend (although, unlike some of J.Lo’s past comedies, this movie seems more focused on her career than her love life).
The chemistry between Lopez and Remini in the trailer has the makings of a new on-screen dynamic duo, and while J.Lo is still ruling the small screen with a new season of World of Dance, we haven’t seen her flex her comedy chops on the big screen in a while. If you miss the days of Maid In Manhattan, The Wedding Planner, and Monster-In-Law, this one is a must-see.
Second Act is in theaters November 21, 2018.
