See the First Trailer for Disney’s New Polynesian Princess Movie, Moana
As if we couldn’t love Disney more (hellooo, Disney + Coach collaboration), the masters of bringing myths and fairytales to the screen have done it again with their newest adventure for all ages. Following a sea-faring Polynesian princess on her quest to help a distressed demigod, find a long-lost island and save her people, Moana is one you’re definitely going to love.
With music by Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda and the demigod Maui voiced by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, we’re also introduced to 14-year-old newcomer Auli’i Cravalho, who brings the not-so-easily-impressed and totally kick-butt Moana to life.
Creators Ron Clements and John Musker (who were behind other Disney hits like The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and The Princess and the Frog) based the story on a myth from the South Pacific, with Clements telling EW, “We spent time with people who grew up on the islands to get a sense of the philosophy and the way people looked at life.” Musker added, “One of the takeaways we had was how critical the ocean is in their lives. It’s the center of so many of their lives, so we wanted to build a story that took that into account.” And that they did, with much of the story taking place on the water while the characters head out on their quest.
You may have to wait until November 23 until you can grab your tickets, but you can get your first peek of the oceanic adventure in the teaser trailer below and get ready to hit the high seas with Maui and Moana.
