Selena Gomez Fans Don’t Know What to Think of Her Latest Social Media Move
Selena Gomez remained the most-followed celebrity on Instagram in 2017 for the second year running, but for the second time in a month, her activities on the app are causing some confusion.
Over the weekend, the singer’s fans noticed that she had unfollowed all but 37 accounts from her own profile. (She was previously following more than 300 people.) While the “Bad Liar” performer is still following some of her closest friends like Taylor Swift and Francia Raisa, as well as several fan accounts dedicated to her, she did unfollow fellow former Disney star Demi Lovato (whom she recently went out of her way to praise on the platform), as well as Camila Cabello and Gigi Hadid.
Also included in the purge were the cast of 13 Reasons Why, a show that Gomez produces, as well as her costars from Wizards of Waverly Place.
The change has left fans confused and worried that the unfollow of Lovato, specifically, could mean that their friendship, which has had its ups and downs over the years, may be on the outs once more. Other fans have speculated that Gomez has a private personal account and that the activity on her primary page shouldn’t cause too much worry.
In December, the singer briefly made her account private following a Billboard interview that she didn’t entirely approve of.
The recent mass unfollow isn’t the only change that’s happened on the account over the past few days: Gomez also changed her profile picture to one of her mom, Mandy Teefey. Recent rumors suggested that the mother and daughter have been going through a rough patch over Gomez’s rekindled romance with Justin Bieber, though no one involved has spoken about the situation.
