Selena Gomez’s New Netflix Series Will Tackle a Very Serious Issue
Is Netflix the new Disney channel? Probably not, but it’s about to be the new home to two of its biggest stars. Just a few days ago, Miley Cyrus revealed she’s signed on for a new Netflix series with Woody Allen, and now Selena Gomez recently announced she’s also headed to the ultra popular streaming site. However, for her newest venture, she’s going to be working behind the camera.
The new series 13 Reasons Why is set to be a 13-episode series based on the best-selling YA book by Jay Asher of the same name. The story focuses on a teen who commits suicide and leaves behind 13 cassette tapes that slowly unravel the mystery of why she decided to end her life. Selena most likely won’t be appearing on-screen though. Instead, she’s signed on as the show’s executive producer.
Gomez tells Variety, “I’m not going to star in it. I’m not quite sure if I’ll do anything onscreen with it. I’m producing it with my mom. My mom is the reason I did Spring Breakers. She’s got incredible taste in a weird, cool way. Four or five years ago, she found this book and fell in love with it. I think I was still in high school. Now we’re here. We took our time with it.”
