As much as we love this time of year because of the glitz and giving, our favorite part of December has to be when Pantone crowns its new color of the year. For 2015, that title went to Marsala, a rich redwood shade that we can’t wait to start wearing. And although our love affair with the next-level neutral may be surprising given our color-loving track record, there’s no denying the wearability of this hue — that’s unlike 2014’s Radiant Orchid, especially when it came to incorporating the vibrant purple into our makeup routines.
Needless to say, Pantone has made it a whole lot easier for us to play around with Marsala, not just because the hue is actually flattering on every skin tone, but also because the color authorities have teamed up with Sephora to create a makeup line using the *official* red-brown tint. Ballparking the color of the year in your local makeup aisle is over now since the line recently launched in Sephora stores and on sephora.com.
The collection includes both definitively Marsala makeup like a hyper-pigmented matte lip crème ($18) and a cooling tinted multi stick ($25), as well as pieces that are variations on the color like the terracotta cheek trio ($28), dusty rose lip pencils ($28) and 24-shade strong eye palette ($39), all of which are meant to be mixed and matched. The color range makes everyday makeup looks easily achievable — a smudge of Marsala across your cheeks or lips is all it will take to boost your 9-to-5 beauty routine. But our favorite pieces from the line are the ones that lean more party-girl, like the metallic liquid eyeliner ($18) and what we’re calling the must-have: the dual mascara and brow highlighter ($20). Now all we need are the marsala strands to match.
