Seth Meyers and His Wife Had Baby #2 in Their Apartment Lobby and the Story Will Make You Laugh-Cry
Seth Meyers is a dad again! The late-night host revealed that he and wife Alexi Ashe welcomed their second son, Axel, this weekend, and the story of how the little guy came into the world is as dramatic as it is hilarious.
The Late Night With Seth Meyers comedian told his Monday night audience that, on Sunday, Alexi started experiencing minor contractions at home, so they put their birth plan into action. Things happened much more quickly than anticipated, though, and before they could even get in an Uber to the hospital, the baby was born — right in the lobby of their apartment building.
“My wife is saying, ‘The baby is coming. The baby is out.’ At which point [the doula] looked and then looked at me and said, ‘The baby is out,'” Meyers recalls. “I looked at my wife, and the only way I can describe the way my wife looked was, she looked like someone who was hiding a baby in a pair of sweatpants.”
Meyers said that he called 911, and over the course of a minute-long conversation, it went from “someone calling about an emergency to just sharing good news with a stranger.”
The NYPD and NYFD arrived just after the baby did, and Meyers thanked them — as well as his building neighbors, who put towels in the dryer to keep the baby warm — for all their help.
The couple first revealed they were expecting back in November. Little Axel joins big brother Ashe, 2, who was named as a tribute to the women in his life, and the new parents have nailed the name game once again: Meyers said the new bundle’s middle name honors Alexi’s grandparents, Holocaust survivors who met the day after they were liberated from a concentration camp.
