Why Sheep Oil Is My New Fave Moisturizer
My skin and I are *so* happy spring is nearly here. I’m welcoming warm weather with open arms because the winter seriously wrecked my complexion. I had never experienced more dryness in my life, which showed itself in the form of extreme dullness. All season long my skin felt tight if I didn’t douse it in heavy duty moisturizer at least twice a day. Thankfully, I found a product I’m obsessed AF with that cured my chilly weather skin woes.
I began using KICHO Sheep Oil Cream ($58) in early January and became a loyal fan of the super rich, luxurious-feeling moisturizer from the start. Here’s why I can’t get enough of sheep oil.
Lanolin leaves a silky feeling on your skin. Lanolin, AKA sheep oil, is definitely the hero ingredient in this cream. (But don’t worry: The protective coating found on sheep’s wool can be extracted without harming the sheep whatsoever.) The emollient properties and ability to act as a barrier gives skin that smooth feel. “Lanolin has very deep skin penetration,” Dr. Arielle Kauvar, a clinical professor of dermatology at NYU, explains. “It goes through the outer, dead cell layer into the upper skin cell layers, where it prevents moisture from escaping.” Makes sense. I’ve never used a moisturizer that makes my skin feel silkier than this or lasts as long without leaving behind a greasy look.
Your pillows won’t be stained. Even though the moisturizer is made for parched skin, it absorbs in minutes, meaning it won’t leave behind telltale signs on your pillow case. Score!
Its vitamin C game is strong. This is one of the few beauty products I’ve used that has given me noticeable, overnight results. Vitamin C and a complex of eight different berries help to break up dark spots and bring radiance to skin that needs some extra love. My male (and endearingly clueless) roommate actually commented on how good my skin looked one morning, and I credit that to slathering this on my face the night before.
You’re getting a lot of bang for your buck. I cannot stress this enough: A little bit of this product goes a long way. I use a pea-sized amount every night as the final step in my skincare routine — that’s all I need to thoroughly moisturize my entire face. If your skin is extra thirsty, add a couple drops of your favorite face oil.
