2 Celebrity Books You Need to Add to Your Reading List
We are already planning on cuddling up with Mindy Kaling’s two upcoming books ASAP, but it looks like there are a couple other ladies who have some serious wisdom to impart on us. Musician Sara Bareilles and television powerhouse Shonda Rhimes are both set to release books that are sure to be jammed packed with some serious girl power wisdom. We told you about them when they were TBA, but now we have the deets — scroll on for the scoop you and your book club need to know.
Release Date: October 6, 2015
Sara’s book, titled Sounds Like Me: My Life (So Far) in Song, will be a collection of essays centered around the highs and lows of the music industry. She’ll chat about the stories behind her hit singles and finding a balance between artistic expression and commercial success, a struggle that is evident in the lyrics of her ultra-popular single “Love Song.” You can also expect to find an introduction by music veteran Ben Folds.
Bareilles tells Entertainment Weekly, “It feels infinitely more vulnerable to speak about my life without the metaphor and mask of music or my singing voice. I tried to be candid. I tried to remember things in an unbiased way. I tried to be at least a little funny…. Sounds Like Me is a collection of stories about my own self-discovery. Each essay is anchored by a song that helped me build a deeped understanding of who I am as an artist and person.”
Year of Yes
Release Date: November 2015
Staying away from the typical memoir style, Shonda’s book Year of Yes is centered around a New Year’s resolution she made: saying yes to everything. The book will chronicle how the resolution affected her mindset and what sort of situations she ended up in because of it.
In a statement about the book, Rhimes says, “Saying yes for an entire year turned out to be one of the most amazing decisions I have ever made. It was also a little insane, a lot terrifying and sometimes wildly embarrassing. So this is not a story I ever planned to share with anyone. However, once Simon & Schuster asked me, I had no choice — what else could I say but yes?”
