Simon Cowell Deems This Pre-teen the “Next Taylor Swift”
Not many people can give Taylor Swift a run for her money these days (expect perhaps the teen who is recreating every one of her most memorable outfits), but pre-teen Grace VanderWaal might do just that. With bangs and a bob that are totally reminiscent of Tay’s Anna Wintour-ish look and BOTH song-writing and singing talent, watch for yourself as America discovers its next big star.
Appearing on America’s Got Talent, the 12-year-old from Suffern, NY showed zero signs of nerves as she stepped onto the stage in front of a packed audience, critical judges and countless people watching at home. Daring to perform her own song (a risky move for anyone — just looks at the judges’ surprise when she says she’s performing “an original”) while strumming along on a ukulele, she blew everyone away from start to finish.
With Howie Mandel saying she’s a “living, beautiful, walking miracle,” while giving the coveted golden buzzer a big ol’ slap and letting the confetti fall, Simon Cowell goes so far as to deem little Grace the next big thing. “I think you are the next Taylor Swift,” he tells the smiling pre-teen in no uncertain terms, leaving the young contestant crying, her family running out for joyous hugs and the crowd cheering. Seriously, shivers!
We fully expect to see this gal’s first single ASAP (execs just need to let her record the catchy song she sings, because it’s the next big hit). It’s also a pretty safe bet that we’ll be seeing Grace opening for Tay any day now. Until then, take a peek at her performance below and just try not to be completely wowed.
