Sisqó’s 2017 Thong Song Is the Remake We Didn’t Know We Wanted
The “Thong Song” is making an unlikely comeback. Nearly two decades ago, in 1999, former Dru Hill member Sisqó dropped one of the biggest songs of summer ever. Now, 18 years later, the star has rejoined the spotlight with Norwegian DJs JCY to remake his iconic classic, and it very well may be the song of the summer all over again. (Video may be #NSFW.)
Sisqó told BuzzFeed News that even though people have asked over the years to remix or redo his big hit, it never felt right — that is, until he heard the JCY version. “I thought it was dope and figured maybe it was time to put some new rims on the Bugatti,” he said.
Though the new video throws back to a lot of moments from the original, there are definitely some differences, including the absence of Sisqó’s high flying aerials from the first time around. “In the days leading up to the shoot, everything that could go wrong did,” he explained. “On top of that, I’d just done a show on the complete opposite side of the country where I dislocated three ribs. The epitome of insult to injury was the couple of hours we had to learn brand new choreography for the video right before recording it where in most cases you get a week to learn a new routine.”
