Sofia Vergara Will Make Every Bride Want to Try This Wedding Dress Trend
As much as we admire the planning required to pull off the currently trendy secret celebrity weddings, we more than appreciate when one openly offers us a glimpse inside their big day. Thankfully, Sofia Vergara opted for the latter throughout all her nuptial festivities this weekend. Yesterday, the 43-year-old actress tied the knot with Magic Mike star Joe Manganiello in a gorgeous ceremony set in Palm Beach, Florida. While her behind-the-scenes snaps of celebrity guests and the evening’s fairytale decor was enough to give us some serious wedding fever, the photo of her dress stopped us right in our tracks.
The showstopping Zuhair Murad Couture gown featured a sweetheart hemline with an ultra-dramatic overskirt — a budding trend we spotted at the most recent Bridal Fashion Week. In an in-depth Vogue feature on the luxury grown, they revealed that the dress consisted of approximately 11 pounds of sequins, 6.6 pounds of pearls and 350 crystals. It took 32 atelier employees to make the gown that took 1,657 hours to complete.
Murad told Vogue, “It’s a fitted dress because we wanted to see her beautiful curves but at the same time there is the removable outerskirt so later on she can remove the ball gown skirt. We wanted something very spectacular and grandiose. The convertible nature of the dress will make it easy to dance the night away at the reception, too.”
By no means are we going to call Sofia’s dress a thrifty pick. However, if you’re a bride to be who really wants a separate reception dress without the added cost, opting for a wedding gown with a removable skirt could be a financially savvy and super efficient way to switch up your look without the hassle of having to buy a second dress.
