Sophia Bush’s Pink Eye Makeup Came Courtesy of Lipstick and Blush (Really!)
Sophia Bush made headlines on the SAG Awards red carpet Sunday night when she revealed that Ryan Reynolds was her first on-screen kiss. But what we couldn’t wait to get the deets on was her punchy makeup. Luckily for us, Sophia’s makeup artist Patrick Ta revealed how to get her look at home.
“I didn’t want to do the typical match-the-lip-to-the-gown thing, so I chose to play up the eyes,” Patrick said. “It had to be strong, modern and just beautiful, so I went for pink and purple eyeshadow.” First he mixed Chanel powder blush in Vibration and Rouge Profound in the eye crease. Yes, blush, but that’s not the craziest part! Because he really wanted the color to pop (who wouldn’t?), he put Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Luminous Matte Lip Color in La Sensuelle — a lipstick! — on her lids.
After he packed on the bright pink color, he used Chanel Style Yeux waterproof long-lasting eyeliner in Cassis on her inner waterline, adding Chanel powder blush in Vibration and Rouge Profond to make the color look seamless. Patrick then added a deep purple shade from Chanel Quadra Eyeshadow in Tissé Cambon on the outer crease.
Finally, he curled her eyelashes and topped them off with two coats of Chanel Le Volume de Chanel Mascara in Noir.
And voilà! An eye makeup look that is dramatic and rich. If you’re going to try this at home, Patrick has some advice for you. “This is definitely a look for when you have an event or an outfit you really want to show off,” he said.
“A key thing is, you should do this type of look with intention: Don’t go halfway. For a bolder look, lipsticks really enhance powders, and they photograph so beautifully. Just don’t use them above the eye crease. For a simpler take, just choose one element of the look to incorporate.”
