Spice Girls Singer Mel B. Has the Sweetest Memories of Meeting Prince Harry as a Kid
It remains to be seen whether the Spice Girls will attend Prince Harry’s wedding to Meghan Markle, but he and the girl-power group go way back. Singer Mel B. opened up about her memories of the groom-to-be as a young prince, detailing her meeting with him more than 20 years ago, in 1997.
“We’d go over to [Prince William and Harry’s] house and have peanut butter and jelly sandwiches,” Mel “Scary Spice” B. told ET, saying the brothers were great kids. “And we would have beans on toast.”
The singer, full name Melanie Brown, first met Prince Harry in November 1997, when he was just 13 years old and she and the rest of the Spice Girls were on the road for a performance in South Africa. (Harry reportedly called it the best day of his life at the time.) One month later, like many teens around the globe at the time, he and William went to see the girl-power group’s feature film Spice World, when their father, Prince Charles, brought them to the premiere.
Previously, the America’s Got Talent judge garnered quite a bit of press for herself and her fellow group members when she hinted that she had been invited to Harry and Markle’s nuptials, and that the Spice Girls would be performing for the newlyweds on the big day. Mel C. was quick to squash the rumors, saying she hadn’t yet received an invitation, and that her fellow Spice Girl might not have been serious. “I think [Mel B] was joking,” she said. “I think the media ran with it a little bit.”
