If you’ve ever owned a pet, you know how possible it is to unconditionally love a four-legged creature. That’s why you’re probably pretty particular about who watches said four-legged friend whenever you’re unable to.
I can personally attest to the difficulty of this situation. Looking back on the nine months I’ve had Pixel (who also serves as Brit team mascot), I’ve often needed a dog sitter, but didn’t want to bother my friends by asking them to watch him. However, if I’d have known that a selection of my friends were happy, and in fact, desiring, to watch Pixel, that would have been a different story.
That’s where Spotwag comes in. Spotwag is a new service that lets you schedule a pet sitter amongst your friends, rather than from a kennel or pet hotel. As a pet owner, it saves you big bucks and also gives you peace of mind, knowing that someone you know and trust will watch your pet, rather than a stranger.
You simply set your pet’s profile, then declare when you need help watching him or her. Once you submit your request, your friends will be notified via your Twitter and Facebook page and can respond to offer help, either for pay or for good karma. I tried this out for Pixel a few times over the past couple of months and was AMAZED at how quickly and how many friends offered to watch him! In fact, the most challenging part of it all is selecting a winner amongst the group of respondents. (Disclosure: I’m an advisor to the company and as such, got to be a beta tester.)
On the flip side, if you aren’t a pet owner but have always wished for a Rent-A-Dog service, Spotwag is for you, too. You can offer to watch your friends’ pets on your schedule. It’s great for those slowly building up their courage to finally own a pet, or for all of you who have commitment issues…you know who you are ;)
