We Tried Starbucks’ New Halloween-Themed Drink Before It’s on the Menu
The kick off of a new season used to be a flip of the calendar… the changing of the weather… the switching over of your wardrobe. Now it’s a new Starbucks drink. The coffee co knows how to usher us into just about any major holiday, seasonal change, etc. Proof: It’s not fall without the launch of pumpkin spice lattes, and don’t even think about Christmas shopping without your Starbucks holiday cup. This week, in order to kick off all the Halloween celebrations to come, Starbucks introduced the Frappula Frappucino. And we had to get our hands on it.
This chilled drink is made with white chocolate sauce, milk and ice blended together then layered between mocha sauce with a *HUGE* dollop of whipped cream. Add some oozing raspberry syrup (for the vampire blood, duh) and there you have it… the most fang-tastic Frappuccino to date.
Fortunately, there’s a Starbucks less than a block from Brit + Co HQ (because all creatives need their caffeine fix). And while I am a known coffee-hater, I will order some “princess coffee” (AKA a Frappuccino) from time to time. When placing my order, I caught the Starbucks barista completely by surprise. They hadn’t even heard of the Frappula yet. Their response? “There are so many items on the Secret Menu. If you just give us an idea of the recipe, we can make it for you.” Pros.
Well, they hooked me up. Turns out this spooky frapp doesn’t roll out in Starbucks stores until October 28 (and it’ll be gone after November 1). That’s right, people, I got one of the FIRST Frappulas. So what’s the taste verdict?
Ehhh… Stick to the classic Caramel Frappuccino, guys. With the Frappula, there’s definitely a strong chocolate-raspberry flavor combo happening here, but it also tastes like: sad melted chocolate, a cherry-flavored Tootsie roll, children’s raspberry-flavored medicine. Not terrible, but not magical. Let’s just stick to Halloween candy this year ;) And… order a Frappula if you dare!
