We Tried the New Starbucks Juniper Latte — and It Lit Us Up Like a Christmas Tree
Before you subject your tastebuds to the weird and wonderful new foods and drinks going viral on Instagram, check out Brit + Co’s reviews on First Bite, our new series where we tell you if they are truly snack-tastic or totally terrible.
When we first heard about the new Starbucks Juniper Latte ($6), seasoned with juniper syrup and a sprinkle of pine-citrus sugar, we weren’t exactly on board. Juniper, as in the same berry that makes gin taste like Christmas? And would that sugary sprinkle taste like Pine Sol? Thankfully, after one sip, we’re grateful a latte (sorry, had to) for this refreshing new winter drink. Here’s why.
In a press release, Starbucks said this drink is supposed to have a “hint of juniper and sage, an evergreen aroma, and citrus notes.” We, on the other hand, picked up on berries, pine, and cinnamon. The drink reminds us of an elevated winter-y PSL and drinking it will light you up like a Christmas tree.
Growing up, we used to love indulging in a Starbucks Peppermint Mocha latte. While deliciously seasonal, the intense amount of sugar inevitably resulted in a stomachache. This Juniper Latte is more like a whisper of winter, which we really appreciate on a brisk morning.
We highly recommend this delightful beverage to warm you up as it gets colder. It will properly put you in the holiday spirit. Or if juniper really isn’t your thing, you can always just ask for a garnish of pine-citrus sugar on your standard latte for a touch of the holiday flavor.
