Stranger Things Kid Has a Totally Mature Response to Buzz That His Character Is Gay
Stranger Things has been such a hit that we’re not only freaking out over a second season, but people are still buzzing over every little detail of the super creepy series. Guessing which new characters are coming, if Barb will indeed get justice and what freaky things might happen next are just a few of things folks are chatting about. But another question fans are asking might surprise you. Some people are wondering if one of the young characters, Will, is gay. The actor who plays the preteen has just responded, and you’ll be totally impressed by his mature answer.
12-year-old Noah Schnapp’s star is rising along with the rest of the young Stranger Things cast. But while the buzz around Millie Bobby Brown is about her dad’s controversial negotiating style and three out of the group totally slayed their amazing Uptown Funk performance, Noah is addressing something a little different.

Hearing the rumors around his character’s sexual identity, Noah snapped a screenshot of a couple of tweets and posted them to Instagram with the message, “So I thought it would be time to jump into the conversation. I’ve been reading stuff for a while. I think everyone here is missing the point. An author called Gary Schmidt came to speak at our school this week and he said that good stories aren’t supposed to leave you with answers because then you never question yourself and you forget about it. A good book, or a good show leaves a lot of unanswered questions but makes you think. Which is what you are all doing.”
He continued, “For me, Will being gay or not is besides the point. Stranger Things is a show about a bunch of kids who are outsiders and find each other because they have been bullied in some way or are different. Does being sensitive, or a loner, or a teenager who likes photography, or a girl with red hair and big glasses, make you gay? I’m only 12 but I do know we all relate to being different. And that’s why I think the Duffers wrote the show the way they did. So you can ask all these questions. I hope the real answer never comes out! #dufferbrothers.”
Wow. Wise words, young dude.
