Leggings are a staple in everyone’s wardrobe rotation at this point. The reason is twofold: They’re insanely comfortable and are basically guaranteed to be on trend with the rise of the athleisure movement. But we get it — after wearing your favorite black pair with the same pieces over and over again, you can start to feel slightly uninspired. So we’re here to infuse new life into your everyday go-to, especially as you plan your fall ensembles. Given that street style stars can’t get enough of leggings either, we pulled together unique outfit ideas to arm you with creative new ways to wear your leggings this season. Go on to find your new (comfy!) go-to look. Plus, shop inspired styles.
Blaze Up: Australian fashion icon Christine Centenera is the epitome of sophisticated cool. She’s also an expert in elevating athleisure staples. If you’re wanting to dress up your black leggings, follow her lead and pair an ankle-length or stirrup style with a structured blazer, statement scarf, and colorful pumps. Monroe Stirrup Leggings ($126): The '80s look isn’t going anywhere this fall. Test out the trend with these stirrup leggings. No need for a neon sweatshirt though; a cozy knit or tailored blazer is the perfect wardrobe companion.
Get the Boot: If you want to amp up your leggings (perhaps for a night out with your girls), try over-the-knee boots. You’ll turn heads instantly with this statement shoe combined with an eye-catching outer-layer (like this gorgeous red jacket) and coordinating accessories. (Photo via Edward Berthelot/Getty)
Zara Snap Leggings ($36): For a sophisticated pair of leggings, try a style with smart details like this sleek pair with trouser-esque buttons.
Skirt Around: Seriously, does street style goddess Olivia Palermo ever go wrong? She elevated her fall look by pairing leggings with polished ankle boots, a vibrant pleated knee-length skirt, a simple sweater, and bold jacket. Want bonus points? Follow her lead and try the “drape-over-the-shoulders” look with your outer layer. (Photo via Christian Vierig/Getty)
ASOS High-Waisted Leggings ($13): The high-waisted rise of these leggings make for an incredibly flattering fit. You’ll want to live in these!
Mix and Match: Go for the print-on-print look with your leggings this season by pairing them with a patterned dress and contrasting jacket. Sure, it may seem like a lot with the double prints, but the vibe works given that both patterns are in the same color family (they don’t upstage one another!). While you could go for ankle boots or flats with this type of outfit, we’re into the idea of trying something more unexpected like high-top sneakers (Photo via Christian Vierig/Getty)
Ann Taylor Five Pocket Leggings ($89): Featuring the five-pocket detail, these leggings resemble skinny jeans (but are way more comfortable with the stretchy fabric!). Plus, they come in regular, petite, and tall to fit a range of body types.
Lay In: Master the art of layering for the office this fall by going for something a bit surprising — pairing cropped leggings underneath a pair of culottes. It may seem totally out there, but the look is actually quite fashion forward. Take a cue from this fashionista and add a belted blazer, stylish scarf, and tailored coat to leave a lasting impression. Your favorite pair of black stilettos complete the outfit. A New Day Leggings ($15): Try these comfy leggings for all of your layering needs. The athletic material wicks away moisture, making them ideal to be worn with an outside layer like with the culottes in the previous outfit.
Red Hot: Give your leggings a whirl with a matching jacket and skirt set, complete with unexpected accessories like embellished booties and a chain bag. Follow this street style star's lead and layer a turtleneck underneath and roll up your jacket sleeves for an unexpected twist. (Photo via Christian Vierig/Getty)
Lou & Grey Essential Leggings ($25): The beauty of this style is the waistband is a little wider than on most leggings, giving them an incredibly comfortable fit.
Ladies First: For a ladylike, polished look, try coated leather leggings with a gorgeous printed coat to make a statement. Here, it’s all about the accessories as well! Despite what many say, you can totally wear white after Labor Day. This style setter took her ensemble one step further with her coordinating white pumps and structured bag. DL1961 Emma Power Leggings ($396): Yes, these coated leather leggings are on the pricey side, but the brilliant news is that they’ll essentially never go out of style. You’ll be able to wear them season after season. Think of the cost per wear!
