A Foodie’s Guide to Super Bowl Appetizers
This weekend is Super Bowl Sunday, and I can’t wait! I am a big fan of Super Bowl Sunday — even though I have no idea which teams are playing and will likely spend more time sneaking peeks at the Puppy Bowl on my tablet. Hah! What I can really get behind is Super Bowl *FOOD*! From homemade guacamole to spicy chicken wings to sweet potato frite, here are 12 crowd-pleasing appetizers to add to your Super Bowl menu.
But, wait, you might be thinking — aren’t you Paleo? For those of us who are Paleo or grain-free, you might think a Super Bowl spread is akin to a minefield, designed to trip us up, but it doesn’t have to be. The Slow-Cooker Kalua Pig from Michelle at Nom Nom Paleo or Plantain Nachos from Mel Joulwan at WellFed will have even non-Paleo peeps clamoring for more. I also make dips for my guests and lay out both pita chips and veggie sticks for dipping, so there is something for everyone. Here are 16 dips just perfect for game day and several are Paleo-friendly. If you want to get really cute with your food, check out these game-day appetizers that come in football shapes. It’s a food-decorations fusion. I like!
Now, about that Puppy Bowl… If you haven’t seen it, it is cuteness overload. Animal Planet hosts 49 puppies from 44 shelters and puts them through their paces. And the half-time show features, you’ve got it, kittens!
