Target’s Whimsical New Kids’ Decor Line Counts Katie Holmes Among Its Biggest Fans
Remember when you were a kid and your bedroom was just the most fun place ever? You could build forts, play with all your toys and just spend hours pretending. Well, now Target is bringing back your childlike sense of wonder with the coolest gender-neutral kids’ furniture line around. It’s called Pillowfort, and you don’t need to be a kid to appreciate how seriously cute and stylish this collection is. Last night at the line’s launch party, both children and adults got to see themed room displays of “Tropical Treehouse,” “Stellar Station” and “Ocean Oasis,” eat lots of french fries and get creative at fun crafting stations! They could even draw on the wall (let’s just hope the kids didn’t bring that habit home with them!).
The collection consists of 1,200 pieces that are broken down into 12 whimsical themes, including the three mentioned above, as well as Floral Field and Modern Mirage. Plus, did we mention the line is super affordable? Prices range from $4.99 – $59.99 for bedding and décor, and $39.99 – $599.99 for furniture.
And the stuff is legitimately stylish! Target’s senior vice president of product design and development, Julie Guggemos, said in a statement that the line is “cute enough for a three-year-old, and cool enough for a 10-year-old.” 10-year-old? Let’s try 20-something! So many of these pieces like the pillows, French bulldog lamp, rugs and curtains would be right at home in a dorm room or even an apartment. Heck, this adult is seriously considering buying the collection’s very cute (if hella appropriative) Pillowfort Gray & White Teepee ($90)! We were also big fans of the mounted stuffed animal heads, dinosaur sheets and inspirational wall hangings.
The line is also being praised for its gender neutral appeal. Guggemos recently told the Star Tribune, “It was an aisle of pink, fairy princesses, ponies and flowers. And for the boys, it was rockets and dinosaurs. Well, you know what? Girls like rockets and basketball. And boys like ponies. Who are we to say what a child’s individual expression is? We really wanted to develop a collection that would be universal.”
The fun event drew the likes of a few celebrity parents including Maggie Gyllenhaal, Camilla Alves and Katie Holmes. Holmes even took a fun photo in the teepee and shared it on her Instagram.
Pillowfort is currently available on Target.com.
