You Have to See Target’s Body Diverse Swimwear Campaign
It should be obvious by now that the perfect bikini body doesn’t exist. Oh no, wait! It does! And you have it. Plus-size model Tess Holliday helped drive this point home earlier this week in a video that revealed exactly how she gets a bikini body (spoiler alert: she puts a bikini on her body). While we know ladies of all different shapes and sizes look amazing in swimwear IRL, it’s a truth that (thus far) hasn’t been very well embraced by advertisers. But this year, Target decided to stray from the pack by showing off their swimwear with the help of some of our favorite style icons.
The brand has enlisted bloggers like Nikki Minton of My Style Diaries, Chantè Burkett of Everything Curvy and Chic, Sarah Boyd of Simply Stylist and Nashelly Messina of Fabulatina to show off Target’s newest collection of bikinis and one-pieces. The results are nothing short of stunning (not to mention super relatable). In addition to the gorgeous images, Target also collaborated with Marie Claire’s Senior Fashion Editor, Zanna Roberts Rassi, who chatted with all the girls about finding the perfect suit to flatter their body type.
Whether they were self conscious of their bust or their belly, Zanna helped the girls slip into something that fully embraced their favorite features. She then goes into more detail about each blogger’s ensemble to help everyone at home better understand which styles might work best on them. Consider it something of a crash course in swimwear.
On her blog, Burkett writes, “Being the only plus-size girl in this swimsuit campaign really challenged my confidence, and to be honest I never felt more confident in my life. Target wanted to showcase real women in swimsuits, and if this isn’t real I don’t know what is.” She goes on to say, “This campaign means the world to me, and I know it will mean even more to girls who look just like me.”
If these pretty ladies have you itching to upgrade your swimwear collection, you can purchase all the looks modeled in the campaign over on Target’s website. Some suits have already sold out, so if you want a particular piece for that upcoming pool party, you’d better snag it ASAP.
