Tassel Lovers, This Bar Cart IKEA Hack Is Your Next DIY
IKEA hacks are our bread and butter. We DIY’ers see IKEA furniture as a blank canvas — and an affordable one at that. Enter the RÅSKOG Utility Cart, a $30 small-space staple that’s just waiting to be personalized with a li’l DIY. This baby is a dynamic storage solution for that awkward-to-fill space in your apartment (we all have one). We thought we’d give ours a little boho flair with this quick tassel treatment. Check it out!
Here’s what you’ll need:
Plus…
That’s it!
Psst: We used two different textures of yarn: stretched jersey for the wrapped base and a fuller knit for the tassels.
First, wrap the arms of the cart tightly with yarn. We tied off both ends, but you can also use hot glue.
To make these quick tassels, cut your second color of yarn into six-inch strips. Take one strand, fold it in half, then loop this folded point over one strand of the yarn wrapped to the cart. Weave the ends of the strand through the loop, then pull. Repeat this step on every (or every other) rung of tightly wrapped yarn. Then give the tassels a hair cut!
Repeat these steps on all arms of the utility cart. That’s it!
Congrats on your newly customized utility cart, AKA bar cart, AKA mobile library, AKA plant home.
It’s kinda like yarn bombing, but with tassels :)
Cheers!
