Team USA Will Wear *Heated* Ralph Lauren Jackets at the 2018 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony
The Winter Olympics opening ceremony will take place on Friday, February 9th in PyeongChang, and it’ll undoubtedly involve some chilly temperatures. Luckily for team USA, the athletes will stay warm and toasty during the entire walk, thanks to some snazzy next-level jackets from Ralph Lauren.
Ralph Lauren has been tapped as the official designer for all Team USA garb and we are more than a little jealous. Not only are the red/white/blue striped jackets appealingly patriotic, they’re also cozy AF thanks to an innovative “wearable heat concept,” as per a press release. According to reps, there’s essentially a mini heater inside the coat. (Why don’t *all* jackets have this feature!?)
Here’s how it works:”…the heating system is made from electronic printed conductive inks, printed in the shape of an American flag in carbon and silver ink and bonded to the interior of the jackets,” the brand explains. The conductive ink is connected to a battery, which generates heat for up to 11 hours.
These jackets will be sold in a “very limited” quantity in NYC (call the Prince Street location for additional details) so the chances that these will become a trend are pretty slim. While you *probably* won’t be able to snag one, the outfitter does sell a host of other official (albeit non-heated) Team USA pieces. Take this adorable Team USA Polar Bear T-Shirt ($145) for instance. Looks cozy enough. That said, we’d be lying if we said we weren’t hoping Ralph Lauren makes heated jackets mainstream in the future. Until then, we can’t wait to watch team USA open the Olympics in in their hi-tech coats!
