Everything You Need to Know About the Text That Could Crash Your iPhone
Something’s going down with the Messages app on iOS devices and it’s a terrifying thing. The Internet is currently buzzing about a bug that effectively crashes your iPhone and reboots it with one powerful text message. We’re so terrified we’ve been texting on eggshells all day with every incoming notification. But stop the panic! We have all you need to know about The Text That Could Crash Your iPhone (dun dun dun).
Users on Reddit discovered a bug, which incorporates various symbols and text, that crashes iPhones upon delivery. THANKS YOU GUYS! Unsuspecting recipients of the above text will then have a phone that will crash and quickly reboot endlessly (YIKES!).
While there’s no official fix from Apple yet, the tech giant is working on it. A spokesperson for the company stated, “We are aware of an iMessage issue caused by a specific series of unicode characters and we will make a fix available in a software update.” So in the meantime there’s several ways to prevent your phone from getting caught up in this mess. 9to5Mac suggests making the sender resend this dreaded text to cancel out the initial cursed one, while TechCrunch recommends changing your settings by turning off the “Show in Lockscreen” option and banner notifications to keep you fully protected. We’ll go with the preventative solution, thanks TC <3
Be careful out there, iOS users.
